Outreach Productions is currently developing a feature-length documentary titled Rise, which explores the history and legacy of Austin’s Black Freedom Communities. This ongoing project will continue through 2026 and is being produced in collaboration with our sister company, Art is Cool. Austin’s Black Freedom Communities were founded by formerly enslaved African Americans following the end of the Civil War in 1865. Despite limited resources, these communities built thriving neighborhoods complete with churches, schools, and local businesses—laying the foundation for generations to come.
